The MNN Guitar Project
In
2009,
Music News Nashville owner Dan Harr was diagnosed with
advanced stage 3 cancer. He underwent chemo, radiation and
multiple surgeries. During the time he was sick and
unable to work, several organizations stepped forward to assist him
with medical bills, rent and personal finances. Without their
help, Dan would likely be homeless. Their assistance helped
relieve the stress of his sickness and allowed him to concentrate on
healing.
After healing, Dan worked to find a way to give back to those who
helped him in his time of need. The result is the Guitar
Project, where he obtains top of the line instruments from
sponsoring companies. The guitars are then hand-painted with
a musician's image and signed by the musician.
Dan
enlisted the help of his friend, Neal Hamilton. Neal is the
former resident photographer and artist at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and
Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. Neal paints the guitars in his
unique style. Neal's work is sought after by collectors of
music art. During the guitar project, Carlos Santana liked the
guitar created with his image so much that he purchased a copy for
his own collection.
If
you would like to get involved in the project, contact Dan and let
him know how you would like to participate. We are always
seeking donated guitars.
Also, if you represent a charity that you would like to receive
one of our project guitars, please drop us a line and introduce
yourself.
